GRAFFITI ™ - the PARTY

The facebook event read: On May 30th 2009. We no longer allow destiny to dictate our fate. We no longer conform to the norms of society and the rules of our days. On May 30th we write our own history! Literally?

Graffiti = JAP INC. Isiah Lindsay's murals a permanent fixture in each Graffiti experience
Maybe it was the appeal of the reckless abandon for the weekend, or the idea of writing on other people's clothes, or maybe the majority of people at the time didn't care, they just wanted loud music and lots of people.
Afiya Gaspard was quite straightforward. She said: "It was bessssssss, quite gratifying." When asked  what stood out about the entire experience she said the airbrushing and the "pure euphoria of the people" are the things that stood out to her.

But what made Graffiti 1 just the beginning?
1. Graffiti the PARTY Ads

LEFT:(Amjad Ali) Renee, Laura and Jenelle strike a post. Depicting the fun of the experience, their stance is carefree
MIDDLE:(Amjad Ali) The sky is the limit, a portrait. Markers, Javon, Britney, Kevin and Ashley
RIGHT:(Cecil Roberts) The color and tone adjusted to impress upon onlookers the stain in time -- Graffiti.
Photography by Amjad Ali[Express Newspapers], Cecil Evans[UWI photography club] and Negusi Tafari [was then, Shinsen Productions]. Quality photographers by any standard, their artistic work has surpassed May 30th, 2009 and will stand forever in time as innovative, fresh and fun photos. Cecil Evans later started a blogspot and has since became one of the most prolific student photographers. We caught up with Cecil who spared us a few moments in between studying for his finals at UWI. When asked about Graffiti 2009 he said, "I enjoyed the youthful vibe and getting to do an urban theme. I usually do more rigid, fashion oriented work so it was a nice change." If he were to repeat the project in 2011, he said he would introduce some creative lighting and apply what he learnt in 2009. "I learnt how to deal with groups better. I had one similar project after it and it[Graffiti 2009] allowed me something to fall back on" He explained. Connect with Cecil here, on facebook and blogspot.

2. Graffiti the People
TOP LEFT: Safiya Watson and Adrian Dillon. The Larger than life "Graffiti" to the back
BOTTOM LEFT: This was definitely a before picture. Before the markers
RIGHT and RIGHT INSET: Smiling Ladies. Some doing the writing, some being written on.
The people created the vibes. It was a unique blend of individuals, with One Alliance and  Mercury Entertainment participating in the promotion and execution of the event. Nesta Boxill, who knew nothing of the EEEmpire at the time, and ended up at the event "by mistake" after the buju concert couldn't recalled some details. "I remember watcin the [Graffiti] ads on facebook, I was like those girls looking nice boy and approachable, that made me kinda come the dance." He said. Nesta thought the sound system should have been better and the space a little bigger but all this mattered little because he danced all night. "I saw huge groups of guys keeping to themselves and then I saw women, and I real wine. I mean I real wine so I can't remember anything else"

3. Markers.. duh!!!

Its simple. Wear white. Collect your marker. Write on another persons white clothes. Carry home your graffiti-ed clothes as permanent Graffiti memorabilia.
The Pants of Jadea!
She posted it the day after and her friends wrote(among other things):
Added May 31, 2009 ·  ·

From a committee member's standpoint Felcia Holder said, she was tired and stressed during the entire process. However in a review she wrote: "A seed gotta start in the ground before it can blossom, I only givin yall 4 instead of 5 stars because I believe that there is soooo much more EEEmpire can and WILL do."

A Social Media Conference

Marie, Ken and their
Fellow Bloggers
A normel housewarming they called it. Recently members of Triple E Fam, Marie Hull and Ken Sambury and three others co-hosted A 'Normel' Housewarming. This event featured Karel Mc Intosh, CEO of Outlish.com and Buhwhamoder Latchmanpersadsingh, the man behind the popular Trini Slap Chop video.
Skills and connections made during their EEEmpire events proved useful as the audience which included COSTAATT Staff, Students and Lecturers were pleased with the mini conference. Josh Brazian, friend of 3E was on hand to assist with the photography. Here are some pictures from their event below. Be sure to click on the pictures to see their blog "Trini Corner House".

BODOW! Not Another EEEmpire Beach Lime takes it up a notch

And the never ending series continues.

Na, not ANOTHER EEEmpire Beach Lime! When will these people stop?
Honestly I ask myself that everyday. Beyond the question is the symbolism of this five word phrase. "NAEBL" These Beach limes allow for the fermantation of our insatiable Trini desire to lime. These beach limes also serve as catalysts providing the best environment for bringing fun loving party people together. Always done in a secure environment. Over the months, several changes have been made to the traditional beach lime effectively creating the NAEBL brand.

1. Music is a Must.
From now on, starting at our October beach lime we provide amplified sound on the beach. This is seen as essential to initiate and sustain the wanton gyration of hips and accentuate the general interaction of patrons.

2. Drinks are a Must.
Usually we will ask, maybe beg people to walk with you coolers and so on. Reality has decreed that we provide the option for individuals to buy their own drinks. No one wants to walk way over to SAMS on their slippery floors just for a cold stag, when you can have one served to you by our resident bartenders.

3. Games are a Must.
"Skin she out!" No, this is not buhwhayuhmoder talking here, but the remarks before a game of "slippery beach twister". This consists of a twister mat made slippery with some good ole squeezy(soap) and water. The spinner of the game is encouraged to derive the most difficult colour-limb combinations to effectively 'skin out' the other participants.
Beach Football is another constant. We can't go to the beach without a lil sweat. Not to be confused with Triple E Games, we keep the activities fun and they all allow for individual participation.

4. Food is a Must.
Richards Bake and Shark. (What other explanation did you expect?)
A Picture of Tyrico Bay (Courtesy: http://www.trinidaddreamscape.net )

Keeping these four things in mind, Not Another EEEmpire Beach Lime has graduated from the traditional Maracas to create their own vibe, and atmosphere on the slower paced Tyrico Bay, 2 minutes away from Maracas Bay. Tyrico, otherwise known as "Indian Bay" is equipped with Lifeguards on duty but is away from the hustle and bustle as cars have to drive into the shore to reach the beach. According to Trinidaddreamscape.net, "This beach has a more secluded feel than Maracas as it is tightly enclosed by verdant hills." .The Red Bull Pinzi a permanent fixture on the shore, NAEBL is now a Networking Party. An opportunity for friends and business associates to forget the rigors and rules of business and just relax, have some drinks and enjoy the evening.

For more pictures of Tyrico, the official NAEBL Shorline see: http://www.trinidaddreamscape.net/tyrico.shtml   or click on the picture above.

The next installment will held on January 9th 2011. For this patrons are asked to purchase bands for $130.00 and receive complementary premium drinks and FREE Bake and Shark. If you are a drinker be sure to bring your cooler and get high off your own supply. All proceeds will be donated to the Sacred Heart Childrens Home.  RSVP Below:

Pure Vibes up inna KAPINJALA - Part 1

Honestly, for the individuals who were part of this real world escapade, the title says it all. For the benefit of Johanna Hutton and Jermaine Hamilton especially, 2both who missed the opportunity by a hair, and the general public this the Triple E Family Great Fete Weekend Roundup!

Lets set the background:

1. What is Kapinjala?
According to wikipedia, Kapinjala refers to "Partridges. Birds in the pheasant family, Phasianidae. They are a non-migratory Old World group"
According to google.com, Kapinjala refers to a villa in tobago touted as "a luxury villa situated on a hillside within the old Arnos Vale Sugar Plantation Estate overlooking the beautiful Arnos Vale Bay, the Caribbean Sea, Buccoo Reef and Pigeon Point. As soon as you walk through the front door you are struck by the sheer tranquillity and elegance of your surroundings. Kapinjala is beautifully appointed with everything you could wish for to make your stay a relaxing and rejuvenating experience."
When asked what she thought of the word Britney Cadogan replied "What you want me to say Ken.... pure vibes.." Clearly to her this word Kapinjala was no longer a noun, but a verb. Before we get to what could possibly cause this, this is what Kapinjala looks like:
Pan Shot of the House from the Front Yard
The Yard allows enough space for one to step back and enjoy watching this landmark
A pleasant Evening in the jaccuzi. Shady wonders what next as the ladies enjoy the midnight warmth
Also: Jonathan Morgan and Gerard Charles indulge in constructive conversation

2. What was Great Fete Weekend 2010 ?
Great Fete Weekend is a huge annual beach party in tobago. Top DJs as well as soca artiste from Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaican dancehall artiste make this an unmissable Caribbean beach party. This year, Great Fete weekend boasted six days of non stop action. One Free drink party, and three concert nights. Although Beenie Man was a no show, the high octane flow of wild parties each night was not disturbed. For Trinidadians in tobago, this weekend was a time when just as one may visit a group of friends at their home or school, it is the custom to visit groups of friends at their villas as thousands of Trinis made the annual pilgrimage this year. Usually this is an opportunity for reckless abandon away from parents and all supervision.
And this is what a Great Fete looks like:
Lady Saw stirs up action on the penultimate Great Fete night
Wet Fete! Hundreds of Gallons of Water poured on patrons all night long

While on the Isle of Maui

Tropical LUAU, a Hawaiian Island party actually set in Hawaii... Well if you were there maybe that's what you would have said..
The lush shrubs, coconut trees, palms, plants and the pool in and around the party dance floor could have fooled anyone.

The pathway to it all lit by Tiki Lamps. Patrons are allowed to walk on the Red Carpet around the corner to the Tropics. 'Life in the Tropics is so much better' because the tropical breezes keep patrons cool. The pulsating music from the speakers reverberates off the tree trunks to create a perfect echo, a unique blend of sound and nature. Once on the Isle of Maui no one spoke english anymore, the language was 'fun'.

Aloha! And a random girl runs across your path with a water gun filled with tequila! Its hard to stay bored here, as besides gyrating one can weave their way through the crowd, around the pool to the snowcone vendor. Snowcone Man ITEA, gladly whips up some with milk, or just with syrup, spiked with some Eldorado White Rum. Just the perfect blend for your palate.

Coconut Vendor Joe, maybe the only person more excited than us happily carves a coconut into a cup without looking. He responds to the cheers of the ladies and serves you your coconut water and Johnny Walker ice cold. Everyone served in coconut cups just as riche loops croons through the speaker box and the crowd roars in appreciation of the music. Turning to the left Pablo D Dancer holds his party cup in his left hand and his chain in his right and jumps to the beat of "Party Cup". His time is short lived however because the passa music was few and far inbetween leaving maximum room for rubba dub dub dancehall. 90% Flexing music kept the crowd going -- Shomari switching roles for the night, with Selecta Mikey on the set leaving Shomari to call the entire crowd to attention and sway them as he pleased. This already mixed blend of music and vibes under the supervision of alcoholic beverages was enough to send even the most conservative person like Makini Hughes kil-kih-tae-ing into the pool.
Lovely Ladies in Leis and a Section of the Pool on the Isle of Maui

Time passes fast, but not fast enough! Seven hours of party, four hours of the party in full swing was enough to fill the avourachous appitites of even the most seasoned partykeeters. Lincoln Douglas is as seasoned as any Trinidadian who has partied consistently from 15 - 23 would be. He wrote on the facebook event wall the day after the LUAU, "closer to perfection every time". Maybe his exaggeration was a bias assumption or the product of liquor. Maybe he said this because any person with enough alcohol in their system will enjoy anything, anywhere... But something was done right to get a party full of people in the middle of the month, in the middle of Valsayn and in the middle of exams to palance from 8pm till 12.00 the next morning. Johanan Thomas a long time critic of The EEEmpire said "What was remarkable is the amount of people present against the odds, you all should definitely have one(a Tropical LUAU) during the summer" When asked to clarify he explained the time of the event was unorthodox, not often do we party from 4pm till 12pm on a Sunday.

How do I get to the tropics? [MAP to LUAU]

Actually it is NOT rocket science. This Venue is easier to find than most.

    Traveling to tropical LUAU?
Stop off at Curepe Junction. Take a Valpark car (usually located next to Josephs, in the street perpendicular to the PBR). Pay $4.00 and have the car drop you down Morequito Street (the street with Superpharm and Valpark Shopping Plaza). Turn West into Aruac Lane and stop by the third house on your left. (see map below)

    Driving to tropical LUAU?
From POS: Drive down the  Churchill Roosevelt and turn south by the first traffic lights after grand bazzar. Then drive into the road past the quick shop, superpharm and valpark shopping plaza until you reach the end of the road (where the road makes a "T"). Once there you turn West and stop by the 3rd house on your right. (see map below)

From Arima: Drive up the Churchill Roosevelt and turn south by the first traffic lights after kaydonna drive in. Look for Valpark Shopping Plaza as the major landmark before the turn off. After you turn, drive into the road past the quick shop, superpharm and valpark shopping plaza until you reach the end of the road (where the road makes a "T"). Once there you turn West and stop by the 3rd house on your right. (see map below)

    Backyard Tropics

    tropical LUAU.
As the name suggests its an hawaiian feast in the tropics. So now we know what the name means, how is the EEEmpire going to live up to high expectations of holding true to every concept and idea thus far?

Part of the tropical LUAU Venue, Party in the Tropics

According to Ken Sambury, "the first step is the venue." When asked directly about the tropical LUAU venue Ken was most pleased but declined comment because he thought that, "we shouldn't take his word for it". However, Tishanna Sankar-Maraj said: "It helps assist in the type of ambience we want to achieve, Especially with the trees and stuff. Just like hawaii it is about the flora part of the environment"

The house is nestled in the quiet area of Valsayn North. We party in the tropics!
